Light Blue Ash Carved Vase

This one-of-a-kind vase by Hamilton showcases both technical complexity and artistic vision. The lower form was first thrown as a deep, narrow bowl. After firming overnight, a textured slab was applied across the bowl’s opening to form the sharp shoulder. Once the slab set, a circular hole was cut open at the center, and a thick coil of soft clay was added around the rim. Hamilton then threw the coil upward to create the neck of the vase. Twisted handles complete the form, adding dynamic movement and balance.

The Light Blue Ash glaze pools beautifully in the carved vertical textures and transitions into warm earthy tones near the base, emphasizing the hand-built elements and layered construction.
