Nadine is not just an artist; she is a storyteller who uses the unique medium of encaustic painting to bring her vibrant visions to life.

Nadine’s private studio, affectionately compared to a treehouse, is nestled atop her garage by her home in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Surrounded by the natural beauty of flowers, birds, and bees, and inspired by her serene koi pond, Nadine's work reflects the harmony and splendor of the natural world. Her encaustic paintings, created using layers of beeswax fused with alcohol ink pigments, resin, or torched shellac, are rich with texture and color, inviting viewers to explore the delicate balance between nature and art.

Born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Nadine’s artistic journey began under the mentorship of Mr. Sven Nurkala, where she honed her skills across various mediums for six years. She further pursued fine arts and industrial design in college, eventually earning a B.S. in Psychology and an M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. After a fulfilling 22-year career as an HR Generalist and raising her artist daughter, Nadine returned to her creative roots, discovering the captivating process of encaustic painting.

Nadine's encaustic works are a testament to her innovative spirit and love for experimentation. "Creating that next thing is compelling to me," Nadine explains. "The problem-solving and research required to achieve the results is a large part of the enjoyment and satisfaction, but so are the unexpected accidents that in turn provide the inspiration for the next thing."

Using beeswax mixed with damar resin and pigments, Nadine layers her medium on a flat surface, fusing each layer with a torch or heat source. The result is a mesmerizing blend of lustrous layers and intricate details that capture the essence of her subjects. Her recent works, incorporating shellac and alcohol inks, offer a batik-like rendering against a milk-white background, bringing a sense of mystery and depth to her abstract florals and landscapes.

Nadine’s work is not only a visual delight but also a reminder of the beauty and hope that nature holds. "Climate change concerns me deeply," Nadine shares. "We are at a crossroads where we need to recognize our impact on nature and realize we are part of it to save ourselves. My small contribution aims to express the light and joy of what I see, nurturing hope by celebrating beauty."
