Krystallin Loudermilk Brings Magic to October's Art Crawl

Artist Krystallin Loudermilk seated in a gallery beside one of her sculptural headpieces — a gold-painted bust adorned with flowers and natural elements. She wears a brown dress and an insect-shaped necklace, smiling slightly as she rests her arm on a pedestal.October's Art Crawl always has a bit of magic to it, and this year's "Bewitching Art Crawl" fits the season perfectly. I'm especially excited to welcome Krystallin Loudermilk as our guest artist at Hamilton Williams Gallery.

Krystallin's work has an unmistakable presence, a kind of quiet power. She builds these intricate, sculptural headpieces and mixed media works that seem to live somewhere between nature and myth. Every piece feels alive, like it's in the middle of becoming something new. You can see her background in pottery and ceramics come through in the way she handles form and texture, but what really stands out is her ability to combine the wildness of the natural world with an almost ethereal sense of storytelling.

When we first talked about this show, I was struck by how personal her work is. She told me she's always been drawn to collecting natural materials like feathers, branches, and bones, then reimagining them into something that carries emotional weight. It's less about decoration and more about transformation.

Krystallin was selected earlier this year for the ArtPop Street Gallery Cities Program, which showcased her work on billboards across the country and even lit up Times Square on New Year's Eve. I can't imagine a better example of how her art bridges the personal and the monumental.

If you're in Downtown Morganton on Thursday, October 16 from 5 to 7 PM, stop in during the Bewitching Art Crawl. You'll be able to see Krystallin's work in person, meet her, and enjoy the creative energy that always fills the gallery on crawl nights. RSVP here.

It's the perfect way to welcome fall with art, community, and a little bit of October magic.
